Discord: Time to Ditch Skype and TeamSpeak

Well, you should not blame me at the first place for the post title. I have got them from Google, obviously-- Discord's tagline.

By the way, what is Discord?

Discord is a proprietary freeware VoIP application and digital distribution platform designed for video gaming communities, that specializes in text, image, video and audio communication between users in a chat channel.

Why use Discord?

According to WebXen, in terms of data usage, Discord is more efficient than Skype as it only transmits audio data when a participant in a call speaks. Meanwhile, Skype constantly transmits audio data (it is more like a phone call). Hence, if you want to consider an efficient application with wise data usage, Discord is the one!

However, if you plan to have group meetings with more than 10 people inside, do opt for other option such as Skype since it only supports audio/video calls up to 10 users only. What can I conclude in terms of the capacity of users in a meeting at one time, Discord is suitable when users want to have a private meeting with small group.

I've tried to use Discord once when my friends and I were to discuss a group assignment. This is the example of the window for Discord, in mobile phone. As you can see, it notifies you whenever a user comes in and it is fun! You can chat on while having audio conversation with the group.

Also, here is a video from Youtube on how to setup Discord for Education!

Have fun reading and watching!
