Future classroom, how much do you understand the concept? For me, this kind of classroom is a technology rich class where both instructor/educator and students are technology-competent. To make it a reality, we have to start from now as the saying goes, future is now. We should not wait until we reach 2050 or 2060 because the world is evolving and the future is changing from time to time.
In conjunction to the concept of future classroom, a lot of companies in and outside of the country are working on giving the best for their customers. Google, a giant technolgy company also thinks ahead of what kind of service they could provide for education. Because we are lucky enough, Google has developed Google Classroom in 2014 to be benefited in education field. Other than that, Google also has Chromebooks, G Suite for Education and many more.
So, what is Google Classroom?
Its name has symbolic meaning of what it really is. A classroom or to be exact, an online classroom where educators can manage teaching and learning through the platform. According to Wikipedia, it is a free web service that aims to simplify creating, distributing and grading assignments in a paperless way. From administrative tasks to evaluation of students' works, Google Classroom is classified as efficient.
When I was a tutor in a private tuition centre, I planned to assign some homeworks via Google Classroom as it is free for all. However, one obstacle I faced was the technology devices itself. Some of my students did not have the device such as mobile phone or laptop to access the platform. Like what I said earlier, in order to make future classroom a reality, the class must be a technology rich classroom, provided with devices like PC or tablet.
Through Google Classroom, educators could easily schedule classes and relay the information to the 'class'. That's for stream part. For classwork part, educators could create assignments and questions, either to be discussed together or as homework. Users can also utilize Google Drive in Classroom to share files and documents. Regarding the access to the class, educators (admin) can simply invite or share with the students the class code.
Google Classroom owned my heart the moment I saw its clean and neat platform to be used. It has minimal concept and colour scheme window.
