What I meant by "Serious Quizzes" in the title above is that, the classroom should not have tense atmosphere during quizzes anymore. Tense atmosphere leads to a dreadful teaching and learning session. Having quizzes in class is supposed to be an enthralling session, where teachers could test students' mastery in that particular topic.
I'm pretty sure, most of the students in universities and colleges have used Kahoot! in classes. In fact, a lot of them use Kahoot!. Sometimes, lecturers' prime purpose is only to have fun with the class or perhaps it is used as warm up before they start a lesson.
Educators may choose Kahoot! to make sure students actively participate and engage with the lesson as well as to evaluate students. Even though it needs effort and passion from both sides, educators need to spend some time to construct a set of questions to be used in the Kahoot! session. Otherwise, educators may opt to use existing quizzes from the website or application since there are a lot of quizzes have been constructed and can be accessed by anyone, from all over the world, anytime. It's the time to induce technology and games into education, effectively.
Kahoot! could also provide you a platform to host games live over video conferencing. Besides, live games encourage accuracy over speed with student-paced games in challenge mode in Kahoot! too. Educators monitor their progress in real time which could be helpful for exam prep as well as content review.
So, what do I need to do now?
You should sign up Kahoot! for free immediately and create quizzes for the students! Once you have signed up and logged into the account, you may want to discover existence quizzes-- the form and structures. Then, you can create your own simply by clicking Create button on the window.
What else?
While creating the question, you may choose time limit for each question, points (add bonus point for hard/confusing questions!) and you can freely upload images as well as video on the question. Isn't that fascinating? No more staring at black and white images on paper to answer quizzes! There are four answer options (two are optional) can be attached in the question. When everything is done, you may share the pin/password with your students so they could access it. Don't worry too much about the result, you will be given the game report and track results too once you have finished the quiz session with the class.
I had an experience playing Kahoot with hundreds of people when I was a committee member that represents ETSA (Ethos! TESL Students' Association) in Knowledge Master Challenge (KMC 2019), organized by UiTM. The topic was about general knowledge and I managed to get quite a good rank too. The most important thing here is, the more the participants, the merrier and the stronger vibes you'll get.
The links below will direct you to a few examples of Kahoot! quizzes that are available, free and cool too! Try them out to experience fruitful and captivating quizzes.
Happy reading and watching!
