Pixton: How Comics Can Be Effective Tools in Teaching & Learning

Hello readers.

A few days ago, I've been introduced to Pixton and I have tried to explore Pixton on my own as well as have listened to my friend's experiences.

Pixton, an online website to create comics and illustrations, is not an ordinary comics in the industry. It provides the users to use storytelling as the instrument to highlight something, regardless of topics and purposes. The range of users using Pixton varied from the professionals to the ones who enjoy doing it for fun. If an educator has out of options to enhance teaching and learning, one should try Pixton. For example, when teaching Literature specifically short stories or dramas, comic strips have the ability to attract students' attention besides function as teaching aid in order to make ones have crystal clear picture and understanding (e.g: plots).

The revolution in education has an enormous impact on technology as they complete each other. Students of the millenial's and gen-Z's era are attracted to reduced text materials that induce a conclusion of ineffectiveness of monochromatic textbooks with less illustrations and engaging pictures. I saw an Instagram post a few months back where the author of the post remarked comics as incompetent and rubbish for education, to be exact is to be read by their children during time-off. No hard feelings-- Boruto's fans, the person talked about your dearest comics. In the next hours, the author decided to completely remove the post with an amende honourable. The author was moved by their child's gestures also their partner had indoctrinated that Boruto actually gave them pretty good life lessons about family, friendships and inculcate affections from diverse aspects. And as expected, the author agreed as they have watched Boruto as a family previously which brought the light to the author to realize the fact that not all comics are trashes. This incident has impacted me to see comics more than just art. Teaching needs art because knowledge is not entirely concrete, some are abstract and may vary depending on factors, we need the skills.

As what I have mentioned earlier, comics can be effective tools in teaching and learning process. Visual representation of comics usually only presents essences of a topic which is also known as keywords will further supports memory-making. Teaching and learning requires mutual effort and two-way communications or let say engagement. Comics could enrich thinking, creating and writing techniques that enable smooth engagements, of course Pixton has it! Last but not least, sequencing system in comics or the plot helps to arrange information accordingly to avoid miscellaneous.
